Shanadan lets you make various potions from ingredients you find there. You need to buy an ingredient pouch and an Alchemist's Tome from Isurn in the castle. The ingredients don't auto except in the pouch. To find ingredients you can either "search vials" in the castle or "search plants" in the garden. It takes forever to gather ingredients so be prepared. Also, some of the potions you can only use once you are more experienced in Alchemy. To make the potions themselves go 1 north of Isurn and the directions for using the cauldron are right there. Below are the ingredients you need for the various potions.
The most important of these is probably the antivenin potion. When you quaff it, it protects you from the stat draining effect of the plants in the garden.
